Ujjivan ranked the best employer in Indian microfinance sector

Microfinance Focus, June 24, 2011: Bangalore based microfinance institution Ujjivan Financial Services is ranked as the Best Company to work for in Indian Microfinance Sector according to the 2011 Survey conducted by The Great Place to Work Institute in collaboration with the Economic Times.
Ujjivan was ranked amongst the Top 15 Best Companies to Work for, in the country. The top ranked companies in the survey were chosen based on flexible criteria’s working hours, fun at work, systematic career development and work life balance.
The 2011 survey was conducted across 500 companies in India, spanning various sectors and sizes, and including domestic players as well as MNCs and a total of 67,000 employees across 20 sectors participated.
Established in 2005, Ujjivan operates across 20 states in India, through 348 branches and has over 4000 employees. It has won the Srijan MFI Transparency Award and the Gold Award in Social Performance Reporting in 2010.
Samit Ghosh, Managing Director, Ujjivan congratulated the Company’s associates on winning the coveted award and said, “At Ujjivan all our employees are passionately committed to our mission to provide financial services to the poor and are excited to turn this into reality. The credit for this distinction goes to our outstanding employees and our respectful customers”.
Each year, The Great Place to Work study, produces the Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For® list and UK’s Best Workplaces list published by The Financial Times. It also produces a list of 100 Best Workplaces for the European Consortium published by The Financial Times.
In India, the Great Place to Work study is in its 7th year and is being conducted by GPWI India in partnership with The Economic Times. The study is being formally called the “Best Workplaces in India” Study, 2011.
