Malawi Conference on Micro Health Insurance in Africa

Microfinance Focus, Sept. 10, 2009: The Pro MHI Africa team will organise a two-day conference on micro health insurance and health care financing from Dec. 2 to 3, 2009 in Lilongwe, in partnership with the EU-African University Network. The conference is being organised as part of the international project “Pro MHI Africa – EU-African University Network to strengthen community-based micro health insurance”. The project is a joint effort by the University of Cologne, University of Botswana, University of Ghana and University of Malawi, and constitutes a platform for various microinsurance stakeholders in Africa and worldwide. Azerbaijan Microfinance Association to hold ‘Investors Fair’

Microfinance Focus, Sept. 8, 2009: Azerbaijan Micro-finance Association is organizing an “Investors Fair” on October 7, 2009 to bring together members, investors and donors and service providers. The fair is to serve as a forum for people to look for solutions, to meet potential business clients and partners and vie for funding for their ideas, said a statement. Cambodian Microfinance Forum begins

Microfinance Focus, Aug. 19, 2009: A two-day forum co-organized by the National Bank of Cambodia, IFC, the European Union, and the Cambodia Microfinance Association, senior microfinanciers, bankers, regulators, and local authorities began discussions on how microfinance institutions could boost the country’s economy, promote financial inclusion, and enhance customer protection. “The microfinance sector in Cambodia has grown fast and significantly contributed to improving access to financial services for the rural population,” said H.E Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia. “The success of the sector is vital to ensuring quick financial inclusion. We have adopted legislation that enables microfinance institutions to mobilize public deposits to help them access cheaper sources of funds while allowing rural populations to safely save their hard-earned cash.” Full story
