Microfinance Focus, Sep 6, 2010: The European Microfinance Network (EMN) and the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) will be conducting a seminar on the current status of Microfinance in Europe to discuss its social performance implications on September 23, 2010 in Brussels. Empirical evidence will be based on the 2008/9 EMN survey coordinated by Fundacion Nantik Luum covering 170 microfinance institutions operating in 27 European countries
EMN is a non-governmental organization set up to promote microfinance in European Union. It was launched with the valuable support of the European Commission and the French Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), by its founding members – France, UK and Germany in April 2003. EMN includes both founding and new members, all of which are organisations involved in European microfinance issues.
CERMi draws together researchers, involved in microfinance activities in developing countries, from the Centre Emile Bernheim (Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, Université Libre de Bruxelles) and from the Warocqué Research Centre (Université de Mons). The CERMi also collaborates with the European Microfinance Programme.
It undertakes research on institutional aspects including governance and risk management of microfinance institutions, as well as the concept of a client-driven approach towards the development of financial services and products.
