More support initiatives towards ‘Friends of Grameen’ and Yunus
Submitted by admin on Wed, 02/23/2011 - 17:22
Microfinance Focus, February 23, 2011:In a recent public letter of support addressed to Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, 23 Bangladeshi academics and professionals working in Bangladesh and abroad have stated that for over three decades Yunus and GB served the cause of the poor and the disenfranchised, especially women, at home and abroad.
The message in the letter said, “Every person is born an entrepreneur; just because one is poor does not make one unworthy of credit. Believe in yourself and create your own employment and the future you wish to have will impact the lives of many.”
The letter also stated, “Although much has been achieved, there is much more that needs to be done. Millions of people in Bangladesh, and billions across the globe, remain mired in poverty with no access to institutional credit or education. We note with great satisfaction that Professor Yunus’ work has inspired the young in many societies to become interested in solving the problems of the poor. We wish you and the Grameen Bank family all the success in future, and look forward to assisting this noble cause in any way we can.”
Furthermore, in support of Yunus and his work, Kerry Kennedy, Human Rights activist and President of Robert F Kennedy Foundation of Europe and Michel Camdessus, former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund recently joined the voluntary association ‘Friends of Grameen’.
India’s former Chief Justice, Jagdish Sharan Verma also condemned remarks made by the recently appointed Chairman of Grameen Bank, Muzammel Huq against Professor Yunus.
He said, “In contrast with the newly appointed Chairman’s shocking and strangely acrimonious public remarks against Prof Yunus, we were quite relieved by Government officials expressing respect and appreciation for Yunus, and the Grameen Bank, in their most recent declarations.”

Crucifixion of Prof.Yunus.
It is really shocking to know how government vendetta influence the judiciary in Bangladesh, it is not much of a significance whether Prof Yunus stayed beyond the stipulated age limit prescribed, the question the wise men should have asked themselves is whether he loved his job at such an age, and to what extent his work has impacted the whole of humanity.
I am sure the learned judges had eyes but choose not to see, and surely this is not a correct way of treating one of the outstanding icons of our times, who has influenced so mant poor peoples life.
Once again Socrates has been forced to drink hemlock for being innovative.
A simple man who have ability to look forward
I have been served Grameen Bank more than 25 years. I had an opportunity to work with him very closely. I found a remarkable man he is.He is susch type of man who have to much careing about the very small personal problem of the staff member. He is too much careing to the Grameen borrowers but he is so tough for the staff whom have financial misappropiation and other irregulerities. I have observed his honesty.with out knowing his honoesty now the section of journalist and vested quarters wrote their own story to destroy the immage of Professor Yunus. If nobody will inerfare the review committee, the world will know the truth and hope again it will prove how much honoest is Professor yunus.
As a Grameen staff I had scopes to visit different countries with Professor Yunus. In the year 1991 a team of Grameen visited German Savings bank Training Academy. I was also a member of Grameen delegation. When we flied from Bangkok through Lufthansa Airways one Indonesian sat beside me. After introduction with each-other the Indonesian gentleman asked “Do you know Professor Yunus and his Grameen bank? I replied “yes, I am an employee of Grameen and as a member of Grameen delegation we are going to Germany”. After getting my identity he was so pleased and we had lot of discussions during our journey. We are getting this type of honor from the people of different countries. It is also an honor for our country. peoples those live in aborad they know better about the personality of Professor yunus and how much honour they got due to Professor Yunus. However what we have seen in Bagladesh, the birth place of Professor yunus. We know people said " The Great man naver get respect in thier own country"

Yunis
For many years (and publications) I have been campaigning against the irrational and unsafe of unecessary injections - especially in third world countries. Some years ago, I was Visiting Professor at GK University in Bangladesh and was able to learn of Professor Yunis' telephone number. I phoned him at his home in the evening. His immediate reply was to come to his office the next morning.
My wife and I were received by him and I talked for over an hour with him about my work and the harm done by doctors, nurses, health workers and all kinds of amateurs who give injections. He directed me to his Health Chief with whom I talked for the rest of the morning. As a result, the Grameen Health activities would take up the cause of reducing injections.
In India, I stayed several times with the Working Womens Forum in Madras and gave several seminars to their health workers. The WWF is a wonderful micro-lending group in Tamil Nadu. I greatly admire Yunis and the micro-banking movement. Vivian Wyatt
